HOMEOWNERS are giving their interiors the 'wow' factor ready for the upswing in the housing market, a Sussex interior designer reports.
Owners in and around the county are investing in new kitchens and bathroms as part of plans to inject a fresh look and feel to impress purchasers, says Katrina Smith, owner of design consultancy True Colours Interiors.
"Bringing in a third party with an unbiased opinion to take a look at their interiors can help place homeowners in a strong position as the brakes on buying are released," explained Katrina, who was speaking at the opening of her new showroom in Plummers Plain on November 13.
Despite recent figures from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors revealing that house sales are at record lows, sources predict that the market will start to pick up fom mid-2009.
"First impressions count volumes," said Katrina. "Special attention should be given to the bathroom and kitchen but also consider whether the front door needs a fresh coat of paint and the home is clean and uncluttered?
"If you have a spare bedroom, ensure it looks like a bedroom, not a dumping ground.
"And make sure that the master bedroom looks sumptuous and inviting. Create good lighting. Add table lamps and turn the lamps on for viewings."
